Don Drummond dedicaba parte de su tiempo a la enseñanza, como profesor de música en la Alpha School, una escuela estrictamente Católica, para niños de pocos recursos provenientes de hogares más bien pobres. La escuela, estaba situada en "South Camp Road", en el sector Oeste de Kingston. Alpha, seguía la tradición musical Europea basada en marchas y música clásica. A la vez que Drummond concurría a la Alpha School, también lo hacían otros musicos de renombre internacional, entre los que se encontraban, Wilton Gaynair, Owen Grey, Roy Harper y Herman Marquis. Don Drummond fué graduado con "Honores" desde el comienzo.
Entre sus influencias, se encontraban grandes como Kai Winding y J.J. Johnson, pero a su vez, Drummond fué una importante influencia para muchos otros músicos. En su despertar surgieron algunar luninarias como Rico Rodriguez, Rupie Anderson, Vernon Muller, Carlos Malcolm, Carl Masters, Tommy McCook, Erick Clarke, Vincent Gordon, Joe Harriot y Bobby Ellis.
| En 1940, en Jamaica, el furor eran las "Big Bands" de Swing y Jazz, y el lugar donde comenzaron gigantes como Tommy McCook (1943) y Roland Alphonso (1948), fué la Eric Dean Orchestra. Drummond se les unió en 1955 habiendo sido votado como el "Mejor Trombonista" en 1954, luego de lo cuál formó "The Don Drummond Four", más tarde realizó algunas grabaciones para "Sound Systems" luego de que Dodd lo viera tocar en el Majestic Theatre. Drummond, había completado una de sus tantas cortas visitas a uno de los hospitales mentales locales, pero Coxsone estaba tan inpresionado con Don, que lo reclutó como artista solista y como sesionista. El Volúmen 2 fué retocado más tarde, posteriormente se le agregó un teclado a las grabaciones previas, lo que intenta acercar a los temas al sonido de las producciones de finales de los '60.

- Jazz Ska Attack 1964 y Memorial, son 2 Cds Franceses, que incluyen la mayoría de las grabaciones de Drummond para Treasure Isle, todas en sus versiones originales sin retoques posteriores.
